Kolkata: A significant technical malfunction at Aakar Computer Institute in Kurla East disrupted the MHT-CET 2025 exam for 62 students on Sunday 20th April, causing considerable distress to both candidates and their parents. As a result, State Common Entrance Test Cell altered the on Wednesday 23rd April 2025 for re-examination for the impacted students on that day.

The ongoing engineering college admission test, spanning five days with various sessions, saw this particular Sunday exam scheduled from 9 AM to 12 PM, with students arriving as early as 7:30 AM. However, around 11 AM, the exam abruptly halted due to a complete power failure at the center, shutting down all computer systems.

Although a generator was eventually deployed, the delay exceeded an hour, significantly impacting students' mental and emotional state. Candidates reported a lack of immediate backup plans or clear communication from the center authorities, leaving them waiting without proper updates and increasing their anxiety. One student who traveled from outside Mumbai noted that even by 12 PM, computer issues persisted, and the center failed to provide clear information about the next steps.

Commissioner Dileep Sardesai stated that the morning session at the Kurla center was cancelled due to the failure and that affected students would receive all necessary information via email.

Sardesai added that such incidents are uncommon, and the CET Cell is investigating to ensure no academic disadvantage to the students. The afternoon session on the other hand at the same center proceeded without problems.

The prolonged outage and the exam center's delayed response sparked serious concerns, especially as nearby businesses maintained uninterrupted power. Frustrated parents and students outside the institute demanded explanations and accountability, with one parent stating the "complete mismanagement" and questioning why only this center faced such an issue, deeming it "suspicious and unacceptable."
